My teaching method is that I base classes on the folk music or latest ideas in musicals and dramas that attract young people to music, plus I throw in the odd old classic or pop tune or song for change.
I am a Singer/Trumpeter/Drama and Opera Performer with a passion for teaching young people all about music. I've worked with little children in a primary school/salvation army musical activities/with disabled children and young adults in musicals, & proffesionally in workshops or on stage.
If my pupils are only beginning to read music and do musical and performing arts activities, and creative arts e.g. poetry, drawing, and expression of their thoughts through what they play, sing and create in music, then I would start at lessons lasting 20 minutes costing £8:00 each, then as they got a little more confident and creative or if they needed more help, due to special needs, then I would give them lessons lasting 30 minutes costing £10:00 each, and then for the more mature children I would give them the full hour which would be £20:00 each. If they wished to 5 lessons at 20 minutes I would offer it for £35:00, or 10 for £67:50, 5 lessons at 30 minutes I would offer for £45:00, or 10 for £85:00, or the hourly ones as priced above for 5 & 10 upfront. However, if either the pupil or myself, for any reason had to take a break for 1 lesson, day or week, we need to inform one another of this, and give a basic detail of why, if the matter is not too personal to go into, we had to miss the lesson/s so that we know where each of us stands in the equation regarding the activities we were supposed to be doing with one another, and the payment to myself or back to you, if owed, depending who it is who is taking the time off, as I've had pupils in the past who have not even bothered to text or phone me when they have not been able to come, and I have been short of income that week.
Licentate's Diploma in Singing from London College of Music
Btec National Diploma in Performing Arts from Hopwood Hall College, Lancashire, North West England.
Btec 1st Diploma in Modern Office Skills from Oldham College, Lancashire, North West England.
I have also Grade 8 Singing ABRSM passed with Merit,
Grade 7 Trumpet ABRSM passed with Merit, Grade 5 Piano LCM passed with Distinction,
Grade 5 Theory ABRSM passed with Distinction, & I have won numerous awards from Music and Performing Arts Festivals in The North West, and South East of England, 1 award I won 7 years continuously. Plus I got unconditional entry into London College of Music, purely on my performance at interview. Plus I played leading roles in all their operas and oratorios or musicals that they put on as part of my studies as a Mezzo-Soprano with a very wide range of voice stretching from Top Soprano to Tenor.
I have taught and passed over 10 pupils with singing/piano exams in the LCM/ABRSM Grades up to Grade 5 with the assistance of an accompianist.
I have produced 5 professional CDs which have sold all over the world to people, and have done Vocal and Trumpet solos at Gospel Rallies and Concerts all over Ireland, and North West England.
I have been employed as a classroom assistant, via the RNIB, at a local primary school - Tattygar primary School for 6 months - where I assisted in classes with the slower learners, and helped prepare for their Halloween & Christmas Concerts.
I have led the Salvation Army Brass Band at Enniskillen, as it's conductor, in previous years, when it played for the Hospital Carol Service or out on the Streets, and I have worked with the elderly and disabled groups at the Enniskillen and Oldham, and Rochdale Citadel S. A. Corps as an entertainer and Theraputic Musician in the local care homes. Plus I have used my skills in Poetry and Songwriting to help people through difficult situations in life and put these in print to hand out to patients and folk confined to nursing homes or too ill to attend normal schooling. One particular experience I should like to mention was when I visited a home where a polish man who was mentally disturbed, and was always screaming and yelling, was suddenly calmed and started to join in with a song I was singing in Latin "Panis Angelicus" as it reminded him of his days as a young man in mass in poland where he used to sing this in the choir. It calmed his nerves and settled him down from that moment, and ever since he was easier to live with until he passed away. That is why I believe that Music is a Theraputic language that can heal and help all people, just like medicine, or poetry.
I am currently now teaching privately, at my home, 5 children aged 6 to 11yrs, and 1 has special needs, plus I am hoping to get back to studying for my last 2 grades on the piano and my final grade on the Trumpet as the next year progresses, and possibly put together a recording of my own songs to celtic melodies which I was inspired to write, for which I will be seeking out a group of traditional musicians to do the backing, as I need more than just a piano or organ for my backing, as my voice can at times be quite powerful in volume when I'm singing something from my heart. I hope this inspires someone to look into my details.
