About Tommy
I am currently studying for a Master's in Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge. I have a strong background in both mathematics and physics, and I particularly enjoy helping others understand subjects that can initially seem difficult or intimidating.
My approach to teaching is patient, supportive and focused on genuine understanding. As a student who once had difficulty studying, I believe that struggling with a topic often does not mean that you are incapable of understanding it, there is usually a particular concept, mathematical technique or piece of knowledge that has not fully clicked yet. I enjoy finding that point and working backwards with you to build the understanding needed to move forward confidently.
I aim to explain complicated ideas in clear, accessible steps, often connecting new concepts to familiar ones. I also place a strong emphasis on problem solving, encouraging students to work through questions themselves while providing guidance whenever they need it.
Alongside my academic studies, I have extensive experience using mathematics, physics and Python for scientific computing, numerical methods, simulations and mathematical modelling. This allows me to connect the theory students learn with practical examples and show how mathematical and physical ideas are used beyond individual exam questions.

I take a patient, structured and problem-solving-focused approach to teaching. Rather than simply showing students how to follow a particular method, I aim to help them understand why the method works and how to recognise when and where to apply it.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the areas the student is finding difficult. I then work backwards to identify any underlying gaps in knowledge or understanding before building those foundations back up. I find that many difficult topics become much more manageable when they are broken down into smaller ideas and connected to concepts the student already understands.
For Mathematics and Physics, I place a strong emphasis on working through problems together. I encourage students to attempt problems themselves, with guidance where needed, so that they develop the confidence and problem-solving skills to tackle unfamiliar questions independently. I can also provide focused support with exam preparation, including understanding difficult topics, practising exam-style questions and developing effective approaches to problem solving.
I offer 30-minute, 45-minute and 1-hour online lessons, depending on the student's needs and the complexity of the material.
I am a First-Class Physics graduate currently studying for a Master's in Theoretical Physics at the University of Cambridge. My undergraduate degree gave me a broad mathematical and physical background, including mathematics, classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, relativity and scientific computing. I also have experience using Python for numerical methods, mathematical modelling, simulations and data analysis.
I offer lessons for:
• GCSE Maths and Physics (ages 14–16)
• A-Level Maths and Physics (ages 16–18)
• A-Level Further Maths
• University-level Mathematics and Physics
• Introduction to Python and Scientific Computing
My lessons are suitable for students who want to strengthen their foundations, improve their confidence, prepare for examinations, or develop a deeper understanding of the mathematics and physics behind the problems they are solving.
Lessons are delivered online, allowing me to work flexibly around my university timetable.
