About George
Currently studying Undergraduate BMus Music degree at Goldsmiths University of London, principle study saxophone/woodwind, under tuition by Mick Foster, second study classical voice.
George began to embark on a musical career eleven years ago by taking up piano, and later classical voice, saxophone and subsequently clarinet and flute. By the time of leaving school he gained two grade VIII’s in saxophone and voice.
He is now currently studying for his bachelor of music at Goldsmiths College, University of London where he studies Saxophone and woodwind doubling with Mick Foster. George plays tenor saxophone in the Creative Jazz Ensemble and doubles clarinet/bass clarinet and other instruments when needed, under the direction of Paul Bartholomew (ex Jools Holland band).
He has toured in the Czech Republic with the Hampshire County Youth Wind Ensemble, in which he was appointed conducting intern for the 2015-2016 academic year. Currently singing with the College Chamber Choir, George has recently sung at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in Verdi’s Requiem, conducted by Marin Alsop with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
Having sung with the National Children’s and Senior Choirs of Great Britain, he now works for the choir as a Pastoral Carer and is in the process of composing a new work for the massed choirs.
At Goldsmiths, George also collaborates with the composers’ collective and creates new music for public concerts held each term in which he performs. He also gigs regularly in a 50s rock and roll 5 piece band which cover many popular songs of the period. He is the Musical Director of the Goldsmiths Musical Theatre Society where currently, he is orchestrating a new show based around the songs of Labi Siffre. In the summer George is working with the music team for Mayflower Theatres summer youth project of Guys and Dolls and Assistant MD for West Side Story with Ricnic theatre company. Current pit playing experience include: reed parts for Grease, 42nd Street, Oliver!, The Addams Family, Guys and Dolls, the Witches of Eastwick, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Little Shop of Horrors and Annie.
He has recently joined the newly formed Blackfriars Camerata 12, a vocal group who perform alongside the Blackfriars Camerata professional orchestra. Alongside this, George also dep's for the Duke Street Big Band in Kings Cross when needed.
I like to think that Because of the many genres which I commit to, it has help my playing ability across these different styles meaning I am receptive to all forms of music.
