About the lesson
Retired from school as Deputy Head and Head of English. Taught in England for over 25 years. Private tutoring in English for the last 4 years.
First taught English in Heraklion Crete 1978.
Experienced with British Council European Projects: working with colleagues from France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Rumania Poland and Turkey.
I mainly teach GCSE English to students either in their home or at mine.
I also deliver FaceTime lessons in which I use both speaking and listening activities as well as reading comprehension.
I prepare primary students for both 11+ examinations and SATs.
Some students have learning difficulties e.g. autism and/or problems with their self esteem. Having been the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), I am often asked to work with students having these challenges.
Adults for whom English is not their first language, often ask for my help with their written assignments e.g. Nursing, Occupational Therapy.
I have also taught Spanish, Italian and Chinese students who come to Oundle for residential English lessons.
My wife and I also host foreign students during the academic year.

11+ School Exam Preparation
I have tutored under Tutor2Suit for about 4 years but prior to that, taught for over 25 years in schools.
I have therefore taught hundreds of students over the years including their children and in some cases, grandchildren.
Two of my ex pupils gained First Class Honours in English.
Another became the first state school student to read medicine at Oxford. She gained A* in English A level.
A number of students, still known to me, gained A* and higher in English A level.
Last year's students gained either A or B in their English GCSE examinations.
Current students are on course for good grades under the new 2017 changes.
Younger students have passed their 11+ examination for entry into Oundle School.
Many of my past students used their English and Drama lessons to venture into the theatre.
Students I taught abroad have made too numerous choices to mention but the one of whom I am particularly proud is Georgos (my very first student in Crete) who went on to be a bi-lingual doctor.
