My main goal is for our classes to be engaging, productive, and useful to you in achieving your goals. A central factor in accomplishing this is that we take the time to discuss these goals together during our initial session, after which I will tailor the lessons to your specific needs. You might be completely new to the language and need a solid base to start from, or you might already be an advanced speaker who's looking to reach fluency. Whatever it is, it will determine how we structure and run the class, to ensure that we cover content you are actually interested in.
In addition, I provide my students with ongoing support outside of lesson times, from putting together succinct grammar and vocab learning resources and reference sheets, to reading and offering in-depth feedback on any writing you produce.
Hello! I'm currently an undergraduate student at University College London (UCL), completing the BA Comparative Literature. My mother tongue is Portuguese, but I'm also fluent in English and Spanish, as I lived and studied in Spain for 7 years before moving to London.
Living in a city as diverse and multicultural as London has allowed me to meet a variety of people who are interested in learning one of the languages I speak, and to gain experience in teaching them to both beginners and advanced speakers as a result. I'm happy to focus on any area you feel you need to work on (oral/written expression and comprehension, grammar, vocab...), or to divide our time evenly between different areas. I also have experience helping students prepare for the DELE (official Spanish proficiency exam) and the DUPLE (official Portuguese C2 level exam), in which they achieved top grades.
If you are interested in learning English as a foreign language or are preparing to take an English proficiency test, I can be of help as well. In addition to studying at a UK university, I have taken the TOEFL, IELTS Academic, and Cambridge English (FCE, CAE, CPE) tests in the past, all of which I achieved a top score in. Because of this I am familiar with the format and expectations of these examinations, and am able to share useful tips and preparation resources with my students.
In addition to these languages I also speak French at an intermediate to advanced level (achieved a level of C1 on the TCF - Test de connaissance du français), and Danish, in which I am currently at an intermediate level (B1). I`d be happy to tutor any French or Danish learners up to a GCSE/ intermediate level, and have accumulated extensive learning materials for both languages that I can make available, such as scanned textbook, practice sheets, vocabulary learning techniques, favourite online resources, etc.

Matilde is a really amazing, dedicated tutor. Her explanations are always clear and thorough, she is always available to answer any questions outside out of lessons and to send material and learning resources. My Portuguese and Spanish have both massively improved since starting to take lessons with Matilde, especially as she herself has learnt several languages and is familiar with techniques and structures that are especially useful in learning each one. Sessions are engaging and productive, I always feel like I've progressed at the end of each one and really enjoy that Matilde will advise me on how to keep practicing independently outside of lessons to interiorize the new knowledge!
Matilde is a really great tutor. She takes the time to plan the lessons throughly beforehand and makes sure that they target your needs as a student. She has offered continuous support outside of lessons, which has included answering questions all throughout the week, correcting homework, compiling vocabulary lists and grammar explanations, finding exercises to put new content into practice, etc. Matilde is also extremely flexible and always willing to reschedule lessons (many times at the last minute) if something comes up, without any extra charge or fuss. I look forward to continuing to improve my Spanish with her help!
