I am an undergraduate student, studying English Literature and French at the University of Surrey in Guildford, and I can offer lessons in both French and English literature up to GCSE stage. I often make lessons myself and break down information to make it easier for young students to comprehend and remember what they are learning. I am able to teach at the pace of the student and adapt my teaching lessons dependent on the ability of the student; I neither rush nor slow them down, but rather work with them. I am able to administer small tests after teaching information to see how well the student has learnt, and after this I am able to identify the student's strengths and weaknesses and continue my teaching methods based on this. As a young adult myself studying at University, I understand the pressure placed on learning as I have been through higher education only recently. I would like to give lessons preferably to younger students as I have had experience working with children, and to students who are serious about their education and would like someone who has been through what they are going through, to teach them what they need to know.
Over the past few years, whilst studying my A Levels, I tutored three students a month. All three were of the ages 4-6, and I taught them basic literacy as well as reading and spelling. I also mentored students studying their GCSE's during my time in Sixth Form, and gave them support as well as going through their work with them. In addition to this, during Sixth Form I mentored year 7 students with learning difficulties by helping them to read, and was pleased with the results of seeing them be able to read at the average level of their age. Furthermore, I recently volunteered in Morocco where I taught English to underprivileged children and adults, ranging from the ages of 8-30. Over a period of two weeks I noticed the growth of their confidence when speaking English, and through various tests and activities I found that all of them achieved the bare minimum of being able to speak English at a B1 level, whilst some even attained C1 (according to CEFR).
