It is worth learning Hindi. It is a beautiful language, but at the same time, it is quite challenging to learn it too. So if you really want to learn Hindi, then go for it !
Actually you are right, their first try to converse with you would be in English, but Indians like to talk in Hindi, so if you will start talking in Hindi, it would be a kind of surprise for them and they would too love to talk with you in Hindi and because i think as an Indian, the language that we first suggest is Hindi. Hindi is a very important language to know in India . Hindi is a very crucial language in India, it helps businessmen in doing business in India. This is one of the main importance of learning Hindi for businesses and companies. And also Hindi is a phonetic language, unlike languages like Hindi. This means that Hindi words are written exactly how they are pronounced. This makes learning Hindi easier. You only have to learn how each letter sounds. Just by learning the Hindi alphabets, you can read and spell any word you come across. This is an advantage as it makes picking up new words easier. It also helps to develop your vocabulary. There are no rules in Hindi like silent letters. So there is a very slim chance of you going wrong with words.
