About Rowan
Hello! I'm Rowan - I am a third year student at Oxford University studying English. Having achieved 9s in my essay-based GCSEs, A*s in A-Level English Literature, Drama and Philosophy, I understand both what examiners are looking for and how to succeed while developing an individual voice. I also have first-hand experience of the Oxford admissions process and can support students considering applications to universities.
Alongside my academic work, I'm passionate about keeping creativity at the heart of learning. I am a young playwright and director and my writing has been shortlisted by establishments such as the Anne Frank Writing Awards and the Wells Festival of Literature. I believe the best academic work comes from curiosity and confidence.
My aim is to help students develop the analytical and essay-writing skills they need to excel, while encouraging the creativity and independent thinking that make their work truly stand out.

Every student begins from a different place, so my first priority is to identify their current strengths, the areas they find challenging, and the goals they want to achieve. From there, I tailor lessons to give them the skills, confidence, and strategies they need to succeed. I believe that the highest grades come not from memorising model answers, but from developing a genuine understanding of texts and the confidence to express original ideas. My lessons combine close textual analysis, collaborative essay planning and writing, and regular exam practice to strengthen both analytical skills and written expression. Above all, I aim to help students become independent, resilient learners who can approach English with confidence and creativity.
