About William

Hi, I'm William. I'm a 19-year-old incoming Computer Engineering student at Concordia University here in Montreal.

Before moving to Quebec earlier this year, I lived in Thailand for seven years (from 2019 to early 2026). Because I spent a huge part of my teenage years growing up there, I experienced the language and culture organically. I didn't just study it; I lived it every day. I know how to navigate the slang, the culture, and the real-world conversations that you just can't pull from a textbook.

Outside of my engineering classes, I'm a very hands-on person. I spend my free time wrenching on cars, doing photography, distance running, and cooking everything from scratch (including making my own Pad Thai sauce). I'm very used to taking complicated, overwhelming projects and breaking them down into simple, manageable steps, which is exactly the mindset I bring to teaching Thai.

Since I just moved to Montreal, I'm actually in the middle of relearning French myself. I know exactly what it feels like to be the beginner in the room, so you can expect a tutor who is patient, organized, and genuinely understands the struggle of learning a new language. I'm really looking forward to helping you build your confidence!

My approach and methodology
I try to keep things super practical and completely low-pressure. Since I'm currently struggling my way through re-learning French right now, I know exactly how awkward and intimidating it feels to speak a new language and mess up. My main goal is just to get you talking without stressing over perfect grammar right out of the gate.

I focus heavily on how Thai people actually speak day-to-day—the slang, the polite particles, and the natural phrasing I picked up living there for seven years. I'm also an engineering student, so I like to break down the trickiest parts of the language (like the five tones) into logical patterns that actually make sense, rather than just asking you to memorize them.

What a typical lesson looks like
Every lesson depends on what you actually want to learn, but usually, we'll start just by chatting about our week to get comfortable. Then we'll tackle a specific, real-world situation—like how to order street food, ask for directions, or just talk about your hobbies—and practice the vocabulary for it. We'll spend most of our time just talking back and forth. I don't really do boring textbook drills.

What sets me apart
I didn't just learn Thai in a classroom; I actually navigated daily life, school, and friendships there for a long time. Also, I have a pretty wide range of hobbies—from cooking Thai food from scratch, to fixing up old cars, photography, and running. Because of that, we can tailor our conversations to talk about things you're actually interested in, rather than just repeating standard textbook phrases like "Where is the library?"

Who these lessons are for
If you are a total beginner who needs a patient introduction to the alphabet and tones, someone planning a trip to Thailand, or an intermediate learner who just wants to drop the "textbook sound" and practice casual conversation, we'll be a great fit.
