About Henry
As an experienced VCE Maths tutor, one of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing students make significant progress and build confidence in Mathematics. Fortunately, this is something I have the privilege of seeing regularly.
My strength lies in quickly identifying students' learning difficulties and breaking complex concepts into simple, manageable steps. Rather than simply teaching content, I tailor every lesson to each student's individual needs, helping them master key concepts efficiently while connecting classroom learning with SAC and exam requirements.
To make sure we're a good fit, I usually begin with a complimentary 30-minute diagnostic trial lesson. To assess the student's current level, identify their strengths and areas for improvement, and discuss a suitable learning plan. After the trial, I normally recommend starting with 2–3 PAYG trial lessons before any longer-term commitment.
I believe the best learning happens when students, parents and tutor work together towards the same goal — helping every student reach their full potential.
Feel free to contact me to discuss your child's current situation, recent SAC or exam performance, or any topics they are currently finding difficult.
Even if you decide not to proceed with tutoring, I'd still be happy to offer some initial advice or suggestions. Sometimes, a fresh perspective is all that's needed to help a student move forward.

About the lessons
1. Which year levels do you mainly support?
I mainly work with Year 11 and Year 12 students studying VCE Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics, as well as Year 10 students preparing for accelerated VCE or pre-Methods.
________________________________________
2. What makes your lessons different?
Every student struggles for a different reason.
Some need help with difficult concepts, while others understand the content but lose marks because of exam technique, confidence or gaps between topics.
My lessons focus on identifying those underlying issues, simplifying difficult concepts, connecting knowledge across different chapters and developing a personalised learning plan. The goal is not only to improve understanding, but also to help students achieve better SAC and exam performance.
________________________________________
3. Can students improve in a relatively short period of time?
In many cases, yes.
Once the key learning gaps and missing links between concepts are identified, students often become more organised, efficient and confident within a relatively short period of time.
Of course, lasting improvement still depends on consistent effort and practice outside lessons.
________________________________________
4. Is there a free trial lesson available?
Yes.
I offer a complimentary 30-minute diagnostic trial lesson so we can see whether we're a good fit.
During the trial, I usually:
• assess the student's current level
• identify strengths and areas for improvement
• discuss learning goals
• suggest an appropriate study plan
After that, I normally recommend 2–3 PAYG lessons, allowing both students and parents to decide whether they'd like to continue.
________________________________________
5. What usually happens during lessons?
Lessons usually begin by reviewing any questions from school or previous homework before focusing on the student's current priorities.
Depending on the student's needs, lessons may include:
• strengthening key concepts
• connecting topics across different chapters
• reviewing schoolwork
• SAC preparation
• VCE-style questions
• exam strategies
• identifying common mistakes
As SACs and exams approach, lessons become increasingly focused on revision, exam application and problem-solving under exam conditions.
________________________________________
6. How interactive are the lessons?
Lessons are highly interactive throughout.
Students are encouraged to think aloud, explain their reasoning, ask questions and actively solve problems during the lesson, rather than simply listening.
This helps build deeper understanding and long-term confidence.
________________________________________
7. Do you provide homework or revision materials?
Yes, where appropriate.
Students may receive:
• targeted homework
• revision notes
• concept summaries
• personalised handouts
• selected VCAA-style questions
• exam skills and problem-solving strategies
________________________________________
8. Can students receive help between lessons?
Yes.
Students are welcome to send questions between lessons whenever they are genuinely stuck.
Within reasonable limits, I'll do my best to respond as soon as possible, helping prevent small problems from becoming bigger ones before the next lesson.
________________________________________
9. How often should students have lessons?
For most VCE students, weekly lessons are recommended.
Additional lessons can also be arranged before SACs, exams or during school holidays whenever extra support would be beneficial.
________________________________________
10. Where are face-to-face lessons available?
Face-to-face lessons are available in Rowville and surrounding Knox and Monash areas, generally within a 15–20 minute drive, including:
• Wantirna South
• Scoresby
• Mulgrave
• Wheelers Hill
• and nearby suburbs.
________________________________________
11. Which platform and tools do you use for online lessons?
Online lessons are conducted via Zoom or Microsoft Teams, using screen sharing, digital whiteboards, Desmos and other interactive tools to make explanations clear and engaging.
________________________________________
12. How long is a typical lesson?
Most students have 60-minute lessons, although sessions between 60–120 minutes can be arranged depending on the student's learning needs, goals and concentration span.
________________________________________
13. What happens if a lesson needs to be rescheduled?
Rescheduling is generally no problem with at least 24 hours' notice.
In line with platform policy, lessons cancelled within 24 hours may incur a 50% cancellation fee.

Review
All of our reviews are collected by us and are 100% reliable. They correspond to a real experience lived by the students of Henry.
Perfect! I’ve had a great experience with Henry as a tutor to better understand my Year 12 Maths Methods. He is extremely patient, knowledgeable and explains concepts in ways that’s easy to understand. He has helped build my confidence and made difficult topics manageable. I highly recommend to anyone wanting extra support in maths or looking for exam techniques and strategies. Thanks Henry!
- Ruby has a strong foundation. She is a quick learner, thinks logically, and responds very well when discussing mathematical ideas.Henry's response :
Based on these papers, I believe Ruby’s actual ability is likely higher than her current self-assessment. In many questions, she had already completed 70–80% of the required thinking. Unfortunately, Methods is often a subject where the final 20% is what earns most of the marks.
Overall, I don't think Ruby's main issue is a lack of understanding of the content itself. Her foundation is stronger than her SAC result suggests, and she generally understands individual topics quite well.
The main challenge is developing a stronger system for recognising common Methods question types and connecting multiple concepts together, particularly in transformations, graph interpretation and application-style questions.
Perfect! Henry is incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and explains concepts in a way that is easy for my son to understand. He teaches new ways to look and answer questions and provides tricks to overcome hard math equations. The lessons are well organised and tailored to suit my son's level and learning needs.
My son has found these lessons with Henry very helpful and it has given him more confidence in his VCE maths.- Ethan demonstrates a strong and thoughtful approach to learning, and his fundamentals are already quite solid.Henry's response :
With further consolidation of more conceptually challenging areas such as transformations, he has the potential to perform at a high level.
Perfect! Henry has been great at identifying gaps in my son’s understanding of Maths Methods and helping him learn how to approach solving problems more effectively. He explains concepts clearly, is very supportive and encouraging, and keeps me updated regularly on Ari’s progress and areas that need improvement.
What I really appreciate is that Henry genuinely cares about helping students build confidence, not just get through the work. His communication has been excellent, and he has been flexible and proactive in helping Ari prepare for upcoming tests.
I’d highly recommend Henry to any student needing support with maths, especially those who need help rebuilding confidence and strengthening foundational skills.- Ari has good learning attitude and communication skills. He is smart and he can find the answer if he understand the concept very clearly. He does show potential in mathematics. Overall, I’d say Ari is still developing confidence and consistency with some of the foundational concepts.Henry's response :
Perfect! Henry has been really helpful in improving my understanding of maths. He explains difficult concepts clearly and break problems down step by step, which makes them much easier to follow. I especially like how patient Henry is and how he goes over questions until I fully understand them
- StrengthsHenry's response :
Erica has a very positive attitude towards learning. She is attentive in class, a quick learner, and has a strong memory for key concepts.
Areas for Improvement
Some of the earlier foundational concepts in Mathematical Methods could be strengthened further. With consistent revision and practice, this will help her approach more complex questions with greater confidence.

My daughter is in Year 12 and has been learning both VCE Methods and Specialist Maths with Henry.
Before she started, she found some of the harder topics confusing. After learning with Henry for a while, I can really see the difference. She understands the concepts much better now.
What my daughter really like is that Henry doesn't just teach one chapter at a time. He often connects different topics together, which has really helped her understand how everything fits together. I think this maybe the reason to make a big difference, especially when preparing for SACs and exams.
Henry also helped her work out what she needed to focus on and gave her a clear study plan. Instead of just doing lots of questions, she now knows what to practise and why.
She is much more confident now, and I can see her approaching maths in a much more positive way. We're very happy with her progress and would definitely recommend Henry to other VCE Maths students.Great maths tutor. Very clear explanations and very patient with students.
Henry has been helping my daughter with maths and we’ve been very happy with the support he provides. He explains things in a very clear and patient way, which helped her understand topics that she previously found confusing. I would happily recommend Henry to other families looking for a good maths tutor.
Henry supported my child with senior secondary mathematics, and we were very impressed with his teaching style. He is patient, structured and very clear when explaining difficult concepts.
My child felt much more confident after working through problems with him and developed a better understanding of the logic behind the subject. Henry also encourages my child to think independently rather than simply memorizing solutions. I would happily recommend him to other students studying VCE math.Henry helped guide me through VCE Mathematical Methods and Specialist Maths and his support made a big difference to my understanding of the subjects. He explained complex ideas clearly and helped me develop a better way of approaching exam-style problems. With his guidance and regular practice, my results improved significantly and I eventually achieved strong study scores in both subjects (43.93 in Mathematical Methods and 40.43 in Specialist Maths). I would definitely recommend him to students who want to strengthen their understanding of VCE maths.
