About Mara
I'm a 22-year veteran teacher with experience teaching students of all ages 5-15, but I'm not, as my students say, "one of those old teachers." I pride myself on relating well to students and meeting them where they are, as opposed to forcing them to learn in a way they can't. Not a strong reader? Cool, we'll do more listening and speaking activities. Hate writing? Great, we can read, speak, and listen! I have a self-created district-approved curriculum based on the ACTFL Standards, ready to appeal to the most novice learner up to the more advanced student.

I've been teaching Spanish for the last 22 years to kids from ages 5-15. I pride myself on using a conversational approach along with incorporating reading, writing, speaking, and listening in most lessons. While I generally focus on elementary and middle school students, my skills and language teaching can go much beyond that!
A standard lesson starts with a short skill activity to get the students' brain in "Spanish Mode", followed by interactive conversation practice. I provide vocabulary lists from my self-designed and implemented Spanish curriculum designed for the ACTFL standards in the Novice Low and beyond learner.
