About Miles
"I am a passionate violin tutor with over three years of experience and a Graduate Diploma in Violin Pedagogy. My teaching philosophy integrates music theory, aural skills, and sight reading directly into our regular violin practice. This approach is highly effective for students preparing for formal music theory exams and those wanting an advanced understanding of musical harmony.
Instead of treating theory like a boring textbook chore, I teach scales, intervals, and harmony through practical bowing and fingering exercises. I work closely with exam candidates and everyday students who simply want to strengthen their overall musical fluency. I remember helping a student who struggled with reading accidentals quickly master their exam sight reading by connecting the notes to physical finger patterns on the fingerboard.
By building this connection between mind and instrument, my students learn to learn pieces much faster and with greater independence. We will work together at a comfortable pace to ensure you understand the mechanics behind every piece of music you play. My ultimate goal is to help you become a well-rounded and confident violinist equipped with strong theoretical knowledge for your musical journey."

"I offer warm, interactive, and goal-oriented violin lessons designed to prepare you fully for the symphony stage. My approach focuses heavily on students who want to excel in orchestral playing, master sectional practice, and ace their community orchestra auditions. We cover essential group skills including ensemble blend, following a conductor closely, orchestral etiquette, and managing your dynamics within a large section.
To make learning interactive, I use detailed score reading, simulated ensemble exercises, and collaborative learning techniques during our time together. I love working with creative musicians from non-classical backgrounds like jazz and pop who want to transition smoothly into structured classical ensembles. For example, I recently helped a commercial gigging musician learn how to match their bow strokes with a full section, which helped them land a seat in a local chamber group.
Every lesson is structured to build your confidence and ensure your detailed progress in orchestral performance. We work through challenging orchestral excerpts step by step so you feel completely prepared for any musical environment. I am committed to giving you the practical tools and ensemble insights you need to shine in any orchestra."
