With a background of conducting professional orchestras all around the UK, I offer music lessons from my home in Ruislip. I love to share my passion for music and will kindle your enthusiasm

Methodology

The sessions I offer are usually between one and two hours long. Depending on the needs of the student, I will spend a good part of the session on basic conducting technique, before integrating the technique into practical examples. When we work on actual repertoire, I always try to get to the core of what the student is trying to communicate and find the right conducting technique to make that communication as clean and clear as possible

Experience

I have a background in orchestral conducting and have worked with orchestras like the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra and abroad with several orchestras in Portugal, Czech Republic and my native Netherlands. As a teacher I worked for the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.

Frank's CV

With a background of conducting professional orchestras all around the UK, I offer music lessons from my home in Ruislip. I have Bachelor and Master diplomas in classical viola and orchestral conducting from the Royal Conservatoire in the Netherlands. My performing career brought me to this beautiful country and I worked for two years as assistant conductor at the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra before taking on the position of Principal Conductor with Sinfonia Viva, a chamber orchestra in Derby. I have performed in venues throughout the country, from the Royal Albert Hall to the Royal Concerthall in Nottingham and from Ulster Hall in Belfast to the Octagon in Yeovil.

Next to my performing career, I have always tutored violin, viola and conducting, and I enjoy working with people from many different backgrounds. Next to teaching the instruments, I enjoy educating my students in the theoretics of classical music (ABRSM grades, music history, literature, solfege, analysis, harmony and counterpoint), but the theory will always be approached through practical application and made accessible by music examples from my extensive library and placed in its historical context.
