I believe documentary begins with noticing — the ability to look closely at everyday life and discover meaning in ordinary moments. My role as a tutor is to help you slow down, observe, and translate your experiences into film.
My teaching combines creative guidance with practical structure. Together, we explore:
- How to find your subject or idea — starting from emotion, topic, or observation.
- Simple production planning — what you need, what you don’t, and how to make the most of what you have.
- Capturing footage - how to 'listen' with your camera
- Finding your own style - looking at what's possible and where you can find inspiration.
Lessons are a mix of conversation, creative prompts, and feedback on your footage or ideas. No prior experience is needed — we can work with whatever equipment you have, even just a phone.
My lessons are ideal for beginners and enthusiasts who want to start making personal or observational documentaries and anyone going through change or seeking self-expression through film.
