I found Joe’s lessons/website on Eventbrite. It offered a free trial lesson for the harmonica. I had played the harmonica when I was young, having been taught by my dad. I’d always wondered how people like Larry Adler, Stevie Wonder and blues groups were able to play so beautifully. I tried “teach yourself” books with cds but still couldn’t progress, so my harmonica languished in a drawer. When I saw that Joe Powers was offering lessons online I joined up. That was at the start of the year. Joe is a wonderful teacher and has designed his teaching to be methodical, focusing on technique as well as theory. You should do a search for him online and hear his amazing range of music and in particular his Argentinian Tango. He teaches all genres of music so if you’re interested you must give him a try. The lessons include backing tracks to play along to. I really didn’t appreciate how versatile my little 10 hole C harmonica can be, and you can pop it in your pocket. Don’t miss your opportunity to learn from the best.

Joe’s a very experienced harmonica player. He’s also doing a great job at tailoring his teaching to fit my skill level and circumstances, and he’s always encouraging. Consequently, although I don’t practice enough, I still look forward to my lessons with him and I’m learning at a good pace.
