What is the top-level of my teaching philosophy? I am convinced the most powerful and memorable attribute of an effective teacher is obvious love for the subject. It impresses and even inspires students. It make learning an experience and not just and exercise.
What's the next level? The second level is engagement through active participation and through getting students to think both specifically and generally about what they're learning. This is done though fun, role-playing, debate and provocative questions and assignments.
And the third level? Finally, actual knowledge does matter- knowing vocabulary, knowing grammar, understanding reading, having a good idea of how to write a paragraph and understanding principles of effective communication.
I've taught in a number of settings, from a university to a religious school and from professional seminars to private lessons - all on a range of subjects. I am a graduate of the English Honors program at Yale (and an Ivy law school grad too).
