About Kathleen
"Starting the first session is usually about finding the right grip and feeling the weight of the neck in your hands. I like to see how you currently handle basic chord transitions before we adjust your posture or strumming patterns. My 11 years of teaching have taught me that reading tabs should never replace the fundamental understanding of how notes sit on the staff.
We spend time on power chords and acoustic technique to ensure your foundation is solid. My BMus degree informs how I teach you to build your own songs through logical progressions and rhythmic variety. We take the time to tune your instrument properly so that every note resonates with the clarity it deserves.
This is how we move towards a better understanding of the fretboard. You will find that our time together is always productive."

"When you pick up a guitar for the first time, you are starting a dialogue with a complex instrument that demands both physical precision and creative expression. After earning my BMus at Trinity Laban, I found that my path naturally led towards helping others understand the mechanics of strumming and chord transitions. My work with 335 students has shown me that teens and adults often approach the fretboard with different goals but the same need for clear guidance. Whether we are discussing the maintenance of your instrument or the nuances of reading sheet music, I stay focused on the details that make playing enjoyable.
I have spent 11 years developing methods that help intermediate players find their own voice in their playing. My background in performing with the Royal Philharmonic influences how I explain the importance of rhythm and accurate tuning. Many of the people I teach are looking for a reliable way to connect with music on a deeper level.
I enjoy working with those who have moved past the initial stages and are now ready to refine their skills. There is a sense of accomplishment in the way we work together."
