Matthew is an excellent tutor. He has a calm, laid back manner and provides careful feedback aiming to encourage improvement and bolster confidence. I’ve had lessons with Matthew for a number of years, having decided to play piano after c20-year musical break. He tailored the lessons to my pace and progress, focussing on getting the basics right whilst also encouraging me to tackle more complex pieces. As a professional pianist and composer he is a great player but also able to convey complexities of piano playing to his pupils. He is attuned to pupils’ music preferences and was always able to suggest a new piece to learn, ranging from classical to film music. Pupil concerts he organises also provide a great informal opportunity to gain performance experience.

Matthew has been a brilliant piano tutor for me. As I am an adult beginner he has been very calm and patient, taking great care to explain concepts. The lessons are structured and his calm manner is very helpful for enjoying and learning the piano.
