About Samantha
Hi! My name is Samantha, and I’m an upcoming senior at James Madison High School. I took Algebra early in middle school and passed the Algebra Regents, which led me to start tutoring other students—a passion I’ve continued for several years. I love helping kids understand math in clear, simple ways and enjoy making school-related activities fun and engaging. I’ve received a National Honors Award for my academic achievements, and I take pride in helping others succeed. Outside of school, I play soccer and enjoy music and art, which help me stay creative and balanced. Teaching and connecting with students has always been something I enjoy, and I’m excited to continue sharing what I’ve learned.

My teaching style is clear, step-by-step, and student-centered. I break down algebraic concepts into simple, manageable parts using real-world examples and visuals so students can understand the “why” behind each method. I focus on building strong foundational skills first—like solving equations, understanding variables, and graphing—then guide students through more complex topics with patience and repetition. I encourage students to think out loud, ask questions, and solve problems with guided support to build both skill and confidence. I tutor middle school and high school students in Algebra 1, whether they are in a regular class, honors, or preparing for exams. I work with students who need extra help, are catching up, or just want to get ahead and strengthen their skills. What makes me different is my ability to meet students where they are. I adapt to different learning styles—whether visual, hands-on, or verbal—and I’m patient, encouraging, and focused on helping students understand, not just memorize. I also focus on building students’ confidence in math, helping them overcome fear or frustration with the subject. What a typical lesson plan would be 1. Warm-up (5 minutes): Quick review of previous material to reinforce memory and assess understanding. 2. Mini-Lesson (10 minutes): I introduce or re-teach a core algebra concept using visuals, examples, and clear language. 3. Guided Practice (15–20 minutes): We work through a few problems together. I ask guiding questions to help students think critically and avoid memorizing steps without understanding. 4. Independent Practice (10–15 minutes): Students solve similar problems on their own while I provide feedback and support. 5. Wrap-Up and Reflection (5 minutes): We review what was learned, address any confusion, and set goals for next time.
