About Elicia
Teaching is something I have always had a passion for. As someone who is naturally curious and knowledge driven, I know the difference a good teacher can make. I believe the nature of the schooling system, especially areas like London, can leave students feeling uninspired and uncared for with the lack of one on one teaching and feedback in class. I aim to not only help improve students' grades, but to get them really thinking about the subject they are learning - exam marks look great on paper, but the ability to think critically and apply knowledge outside of the curriculum can't be taught through memorising mark schemes.
At medical school, we are taught a 'patient centred' approach - I like to turn this into student centred approach in my lessons. Everyone learns differently, and I adjust my lessons based on what works for each individual to ensure my students can get as much out of our time as possible. Finally, my lessons are a safe space for uncertainty and mistakes - we can't learn if we're scared to be wrong.

During my time tutoring, the most important lesson I have learnt is that it's essential to teach each student according to their own needs, strengths, and preferences. I aim to deliver personalised lessons that will best help students reach their goals and improve not only their performance at school, but understanding and appreciation of what they are learning.
What I teach:
My lessons are typically 50 minutes, with weekly homework if requested. The age range I teach is 8-18, and includes general help with school work in addition to preparation for the 11+, GCSEs, and A-Levels. Biology is my speciality as I am a medical student, but am well experienced in teaching all the sciences and maths up to GCSE, and biology and chemistry at A-level
My qualifications:
I achieved 10 A*s at GCSE (9 in maths), and A*AA at A level in biology, chemistry, and psychology.
I have over 2 years of experience as a tutor in a variety of settings - tutoring centres, one on one home lessons, and online sessions. I'm currently going into my third year of medical school, and earned a distinction in my first year.
