About Rianne
I’ve taught over 25 students, from complete beginners to advanced players, children through to adults. Several have stayed with me for more than a year, my longest was over three years, and three families have brought both of their children to me. That matters more to me than any exam result. It means the lessons are somewhere people actually want to keep coming back to.
I teach from my home studio in Camberley on a Kawai baby grand, and online for students further away.
Playing the piano is where I go to think clearly, and what I most want is for students to find that too, whether they’re heading for Grade 8 or just want to finally play something they love properly.
I don’t only exist between 4 and 5 on a Tuesday. Students message me between lessons with questions, or send me a piece they’ve found and want to learn. That’s always welcome.

Mandarin
Every student is different, so I don't teach one way for everyone. Some want exams, some just want to play their favourite film music, some want to sit down after work and unwind for half an hour. All good reasons to learn.
In lessons we work on technique, sight reading and theory alongside your pieces, but the piece always comes first. I'll explain why a hand shape or fingering works instead of just asking you to trust me, because that's what actually sticks when I'm not in the room.
Exams. I prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity, Grades 1 to 8, including Grade 5 Theory. I'll always tell you honestly where a student stands. If another term would turn a nervous pass into a confident one, I'll say so, but it's always the family's call.
Beginners. No experience needed, no age limit. Adults who stopped as kids and always meant to go back are some of my favourite students to teach.
Between lessons you'll get a clear practice plan, what to work on and how, not just "practise this." Feel free to send me a recording or a question anytime.
On pace. Everyone learns at their own speed and I never compare students to each other. We celebrate milestones as they come. Nobody is ever behind, and there's no such thing as a silly question at my piano.
Mandarin and Cantonese songs. I'm a native speaker of both, so if you want to play and actually understand Chinese pop or classical pieces, lyrics, tones, meaning and all, I can help with that too.
