About Lisa
I graduated with an MA in Political Science and Asian Studies from the University of Toronto and BA (Hons) Political Science and History from the University of Alberta, also traveling to China to improve my Mandarin Chinese at Peking University and Liaoning Normal University and earning my TESL Canada certificate. I have worked with various post-secondary departments at Canadian universities to provide academic writing workshops related to dissertation writing, publishing, essay writing, and school/scholarship application writing, as well as numerous high school, undergrad, and graduate students across campuses. My favorite part of teaching is seeing a student grow into a confident communicator and leader, sure of what they want and that they have the skills to achieve their goals. I also love laughing with and getting to know my students over the years. I truly love my job and learning new things each day. My students teach me as much or more than I teach them every day.

My goal is not only to coach a student to improve their academic and professional communication skills, but also to understand how to navigate the academic and professional systems in Canada and the US in order to achieve their long-term career goals. I advise student on critical thinking, research skills, and writing style, as well as how to communicate with their professors and colleagues to build solid social networks and grow their skills and knowledge outside of the classroom to make transition to a job after university or within academia smooth. I'm approach, realistic, kind, and compassionate - personalizing each lesson to the student's specific needs and goals, while also sharing my breadth of knowledge about the academic research and publication environment gained while completing my MA in Political Science, as well as working with high school, university, and graduate students over the past two decades to improve their written projects and presentations through one-on-one coaching and substantive editing.

I have been teaching writing for over 2 decades, starting with elementary students, working up to helping Jr. Scholars and Professors to publish their work. I am well-versed in the requirements of academic writing and can support students with any document required throughout their journey, ranging for basic essays, funding applications, research ethics board submission, to dissertation proposals. I am not only an editor, but a coach, which means that I assist students with ideation and resource gathering, along with structuring and organization. Basically, you get your own personal professor as a writing coach or editor.
*editing fees are based on a word count and document type basis. I give quotes on a project by project basis.
