My name is Tiago Fougo and I study International Law and Globalisation at the 'University of Birmingham'. I can give lessons in essay and dissertation wiriting technique up to ALevel as I hold a pre-U qualification with a distinction 2.
I have a bachelors degree in English language, Masters in English Language and linguistics and PhD in Linguistics and English Language. I have taught secondary school students English language for 10 years, then I taught the use of English and introduction to phonetics and phonology to undergraduate university students.
My teaching method is fast and efficient - but also patient. I like to coach and encourage students on what they've already written, building new and exciting ways to give their writing even more colour and flair. From here I work around inspiring students to create work they will be desperate to show off to their family and friends.
My qualifications: MA, BA Hons, PGCE, RSMA. Writing skills for students in schools, community, F.E and HE. Person-centered lessons, responding to your needs and identifying your aims and targets.
Having been a voracious reader and keen student of literature from a young age, I love inspiring new generations of students with the same passion that has been so rewarding and formative in my own life. With my tutoring I like to be creative, caring, and approachable, whilst nevertheless aiming to foster a high level of academic attainment.
I’m a current postgraduate looking to inspire students who may need a little extra help connecting with English and Literature to achieve their full potential. I can teach a diverse range of topics and time periods and have taught many of the GCSE and A Level set texts. I have particular expertise in Victorian and Modern Literature.
* I have 10 years teaching experience * I have students from many universities including Cambridge University, University of Oxford, Russell Group Universities including King’s College London, UCL, LSE, SOAS, and Royal Holloway University. * I am very organised and punctual tutor and work very carefully with the students within time constrains and tight deadlines.
I take a student- Centred Approach to learning, where the children/child being tutored has an active role in the teaching process. Although I would still remain the main figure of authority, in a student-centred teaching approach, the student/students are just as much apart of the teaching process as I am.
(concealed information) (concealed information) English lessons: Language, Literature, English as a foreign language/ EFL, all ages and levels. (GCSE, A Levels, University Degree, PostGrad, PhD). Also pronunciation / English RP ‘accent’ lessons.
I focus on syllabus and exam technique. My usual method is to set an agreed question from your current syllabus, write it up and send it me for review, assessment, annotation and additional ideas. We meet up, online preferably, and go over the answer together working through point by point. You'll get a copy of my annotations, notes and ideas to take away.
I tailor my tutoring session to individual needs, according to your level of understanding and individual goals. Our sessions will have a strong focus on helping you to acquire the tools, techniques, and skills to become an independent researcher, writer and self-editor.
I base my classes on a student centred approach, finding different ways to approach the texts, writing styles, or exams. My lessons would be suited to beginning / emerging writers or GCSE/Alevel English students; I am also happy to offer dissertation/uni-support.
I offer tutoring in English and related humanities subjects such as history and politics. I am especially capable of tutoring philosophy as its own specific subject at both A level and Undergraduate degree level. I intend to create a collaborative feel to my lessons and encourage students to identify their own support areas and guide learning through this.
I am a creative and enthusiastic teacher and work hard to match my lessons with the needs of students, taking each student on a case by case basis. I teach ages 3-50, including English as a foreign language, English Literature, creative writing, grammar and functional English skills and SEN and dyslexic students.
I have a PhD from the English Department at the University of Southampton and many years of experience teaching English literature, poetry and academic skills (research, writing, referencing, presentation skills, time management, digital resources) to BA and MA students.
I'm here to guide you through the challenging process of writing your dissertation. After working with dozens of students at UG and PG level, I can help you avoid some of the most common mistakes that students make whilst writing their dissertations. My experience supervising students covers business and management areas. I specialise in marketing and digital marketing dissertation.
I consider it of paramount importance to avoid being didactic in my lessons. The key to learning, in my experience, has always been to make it as interactive and independent thinking as possible.
My teaching method is very personalised to the individual students as from my experience having a blanket approach to teaching does not suit every student. For students sitting GCSE or A Level exams my teaching is centered around their specific syllabus and specification but with an emphasis on what the student enjoys within this to keep them enthusiastic and make the lessons enjoyable.
I approach each topic in chronological order, with detail and enthusiasm. I like to work through each topic in detail, highlighting important information and also encouraging students to strive for an in depth and general knowledge of the particular topic at hand.
I structure my lessons based on what the student feels they need the most help with. For example, I will read out poetry analysis tools and words and explain them and then get the student to reiterate what I have said step by step until we are both sure they understand it.
For school students with reading, comprehension or articulation difficulties, I read through the texts or parts of the text with them out loud, using my own experience of the text to bring out the way the writer uses their language.
I tutor according to the needs of the student. So, if your strengths are in textual analysis but you struggle with structure then we will focus on that area. I prefer to work closely to the various syllabuses of the exam boards, and when exam time arrives I feel it is especially helpful to look closely at the examiner's reports from previous years.
Continuing the ethos I learned at the student success centre I taught at in New York, my goal is not just to prescribe to give clients the tools to become better writers. All lesson plans start and end with the clients desire.
My method is to meet with the pupil/student define what the problem areas are then base my classes on how to tackle anything the pupil/student might have problems with & strengthen these areas by talking through the main difficulties & giving the pupil a technique on how to manage the work or the dissertation.
My teaching style is friendly, structured and supportive: I tailor lessons to students' academic needs. We will go through each topic by theme, character and language analysis, geared towards the assessment style (essay/exam).
