I am a student in my last year of school, studying maths, economics and mandarin at Advanced Higher level. While I do not have a maths degree, I am no more than two years from sitting Higher and National 5 mathematics, which gives me a superior grasp of the exam techniques and knowledge that pupils actually need in order to score top grades.
I find that working through past papers, targeting areas of low confidence and explaining them in such a way that the student could teach it back is the only proven way to score top marks.
Although I am still at school, I have had invaluable teaching experience in two vastly different contexts. For 12 weeks I was a Mentors in Violence Prevention mentor, and taught groups of up to 30 11 year olds at a time. The real issue when confronted with this many people was keeping it personal, which I achieved through debate and discussion.
This led to work teaching a 13 year old mandarin in my spare time.
If i have to spend £5 or more on travel it would be greatly appreciated if these costs could be reimbursed
