Aled - Brixton - Music Theory

Methodology

Hello! I'm an experienced music teacher, specialising in Violin, Viola and Piano. I understand that every student is unique and so tailor lessons to suit each student. I teach students of all ages helping them fulfill their potential.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Violin - Beginner to Advanced
Viola - Beginner to Advanced
Piano - Beginner
Recorder - Beginner
Chamber Tuition - Beginner to Advanced
Music Theory - Beginner to Advanced
Sibelius Software - Beginner to Advanced

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I studied for 4 years at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, obtaining a BMus in performance. I then continued my studies at the Royal College of Music, London at post graduate level. During both stages of my studies I also learnt about Composition and Music Theory along-side my main studies. I have obtained the ABRSM Diploma Of Teaching, specialising in Strings.

- How much do you charge?

My fees for tuition are currently set at:

£40 / 1 hour
£35 / 45mins
£30 / 30mins

- Where do you teach?

I am based in Hearne Hill and teach in and around South London - areas such as South Kensington, Lancaster gate, Chelsea, Notting Hill, City of London, Clapham, Greenwich and Blackheath.

- When are you available?

Due to the freelance nature of my work, my working week is flexible and lesson times can be suited to the student.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I specialise in teaching adults but all ages are welcome!

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I prepare students for ABRSM exams, concerts and auditions.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

All I can ask for from my students is that they are keen to learn and take the time to practice during the week. You will find some things difficult, this is only natural in the process of learning a skill, so perseverance and determination are vital! I look forward to hearing form you!

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I teach all ages of students from children to adults. I currently teach in a school in London and have been privately teaching for 5+ years. I have lead and supported several outreach projects with Royal College of Music 'Sparks' program including workshops, chamber tuition and group tuition.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I work in a secondary school and have been fully DBS checked.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I studied at both the Royal College of Music, London and at the Royal Welsh College of Music, Cardiff. My tutors included Jon Thorne (Bake Quartet) and Philip Hayman (WNO). I have performed in master classes and coaching with players from the Chilingirian Quartet, the Eroica Quartet and with Simon Rowland-Jones and Lawrence Power amongst others.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am a member of the Musicians Union.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

My current students range from teenagers to Adults. Many of my students are working towards ABRSM exams in the near future while I take a more flexible approach with other students; helping them prepare orchestral and chamber works. My teaching style is focused on solid technique and musicality. Equally as important is enabling students to be able to practice wisely, efficiently and interdependently.
