I think students need to feel comfortable to appreciate a subject. There is so much pressure on students to take classes or quickly learn new concepts. My approach is to make sure that students feel safe and comfortable with each step of the learning process and the subject. English is really difficult and I think the best way to learn it is to relax and talk. I usually start with a conversation. Once you are comfortable speaking and listening, understanding complex grammar and academic English is easier. Many of my former students had learning disabilities such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, were on the autism spectrum or had ADHD. I am very comfortable with each of these and I know how to communicate with the students who treat them. Schools often do not provide the necessary support for these students and my goal is to fill that gap. --- I believe students need to feel comfortable in order to enjoy a subject. So much pressure is being made to keep up with the class or learn new concepts quickly. My approach involves making students feel safe and comfortable with each step of the learning process and the subject matter. English is really hard, and I think the best way to learn it is to relax and speak. I usually start with conversation. Once you are comfortable with speaking and listening, understanding complex grammar and academic English is easier. Many of my previous dyslexia and dyspraxia have had such learning disabilities, have been on the autism spectrum, or have had ADHD. I am very comfortable with each of these, and know how to relate to students dealing with them. Often, schools do not provide the necessary support for these students, and I like to fill that gap.
