This involves: * Assessing Prior Knowledge: What do they already know about the topic? This helps me avoid redundancy and tailor the starting point. * Identifying Learning Styles: While individuals are complex, I try to recognize if there's a general preference for visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or reading/writing approaches within the group. This informs the variety of methods I'll employ. * Determining Learning Objectives: What do I want them to be able to do or understand by the end of the lesson/course? Clear objectives guide both my teaching and their learning. Structuring and Delivering Content Once I have a grasp of my learners, I focus on structuring and delivering the knowledge in a way that promotes comprehension and retention: * Start with the "Why": I always try to explain the relevance and practical application of the knowledge. Why is this important to learn? How will it benefit them? This intrinsically motivates learners. * Break Down Complex Concepts: Large, intimidating topics are broken into smaller, digestible chunks. This makes learning less overwhelming and easier to process. * Use Diverse Teaching Methods: I rarely stick to just one method.
