About Bel
I am a student of words and communication with a very varied background. At university I read Arabic - literature, linguistics and history - whilst simultaneously pursuing an active career in theatre and sport. I spent a year abroad in Egypt to get first-hand experience of the life and language of a country in the Arab world. Now I am exploring physical communication at Lecoq's theatre school in Paris, and living a Francophone life.

My teaching method is largely based on the student in front of me. Language can be intimidating - how terrible it seems to lose one's native eloquence! - and I believe that it is very important to respond to my student's interests and needs. What is the aspect of this language which will inspire passion? (Because passion is much needed when conjugating verbs!) The heat of poetry? The thrill of travel? The logic of grammar?
With each class, I prepare a subject that needs work, and I try to animate the subject with a variety of material and methods. Sometimes we will read, write, play games, hear songs, watch videos. It is very important that the student sees the language as something alive - necessary and beautiful.
In terms of literature, I try to encourage the student to build a real connection to the work, so that they feel the confidence and the desire to analyse. I also believe very much in reading literature aloud, so as to understand that the effects of the written word do not stay locked onto their page...
And throughout all of this, there must be the teacher's own passion. I am an avid and energetic student myself and so, when I teach, I teach a love of learning.
