About Shreya

Hi! I'm Shreya, and I'm excited to have the chance to tutor you in the area of English. As a high school senior, and incoming freshman at the University of South Florida on a pre-law track, I understand the process of learning a subject that may not seem the easiest at first. I am here to ensure that the process can be made more engaging, rewarding, and most importantly rather successful for you! English has been my favorite subject, and one I have excelled at over the years through multiple methods, approaches, and techniques I am confident will help you! I aspire to instill confidence in your abilities so that you can reach your full potential.

My Objective: To help the student improve their English/ELA/Language Skills inside and outside the classroom. These skills include reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The goal will be to focus on the student's needs and wants to grow in specific areas, ranging from vocabulary development, grammar, reading comprehension, and conversational skills.

A Typical Lesson Plan: Will vary dependent upon the student's request and needs!

Lesson Plan Outline (60 minutes):

1. Review (5-10 minutes)
Goal: Get the student engaged and assess previous knowledge.
Activities:
Ask the student about their day or week to practice conversational skills.
Review any homework or previous lesson material.
Ask the student what they would be comfortable working on.

2. Vocabulary/Reading Comprehension Building (10-15 minutes)
Goal: Expand the student’s vocabulary and reading capabilities.
Activities:
Introduce 5-10 new words based on the student’s interests or lesson topic.
Use pictures, definitions, and example sentences to explain each word.
Have the student use the new words in sentences or a short paragraph.
Ask the student to underline or highlight key ideas and unfamiliar words.
After reading, ask comprehension questions to ensure understanding.

3. Grammar Focus (10-15 minutes)
Goal: Practice a specific grammar point (e.g., past tense, articles, subject-verb agreement).
Activities:
Review the grammar rule with examples.
Have the student complete a short exercise, such as filling in the blanks, correcting errors, or creating sentences.
Discuss the answers and provide explanations for mistakes.

4. Speaking/Conversation Practice (10-15 minutes)
Goal: Develop speaking and listening skills.
Activities:
Have a casual conversation about a familiar topic (e.g., hobbies, favorite books, school).
Correct any mistakes gently and encourage the student to express themselves.
Play a word game or engage in vocabulary enhancing games.

6. Wrap-up (10-15 minutes)
Goal: Reinforce learning and set goals for the next lesson.
Activities:
Review what was covered in the lesson (vocabulary, grammar, reading).
Ask the student what they found easy or challenging.
Assign a small task or homework (e.g., write a paragraph using the new vocabulary, practice speaking about a topic).

Materials that will be used during the lessons, specifically for elementary and middle school students, will be flashcards, reading passages, and worksheets for grammar and vocabulary exercises. Online resources such as videos or comprehension games may be used occasionally.

I ensure to adjust the difficulty based on the student’s current level, be interactive with the student, and provide as much feedback and as many resources as possible for the student.
