Dickson tutored me in maths and further maths from the end of year 12 all the way up to my A levels. Throughout this time, his lessons always proved to be extremely helpful and I found that Dickson was able to quickly understand my learning style and adapt my lessons so that I was able to grasp concepts that I had previously struggled with at school. He was also able to resolve any specific queries I had regarding the content due to his extensive knowledge in the subjects and he supported me so that I could achieve the highest mark that I could in my exams. Dickson also made an effort to answer any questions I had outside of our lessons through a quick text, and I would always receive a clear and concise answer. Not only did Dickson improve my understanding of maths but he also greatly developed my interest in the subject.
While my passion lies in mathematics, essay-based subjects have always been a weakness of mine. Although conceptually, A-Level Economics wasn’t as difficult as Further Mathematics, it was hard for me to demonstrate my knowledge on paper when answering economics essay-style questions. Jumping from point to point and leaving out key chains of reasoning meant that I was stuck at a mediocre grade. My struggles with economics took a toll on my other subjects. In every single economics lesson at school, I regretted not listening to my dad and choosing physics instead.
When my school was finalizing predicted grades for university, an A in economics, next to two A*s in maths and further maths, threatened to weaken my university application. Fighting for an A* prediction in economics, I was told that the only way I could achieve this grade in the summer was if I completely changed my approach. That’s when I met Dickson.
When I started lessons with Dickson, he instantly understood that, with my strong background in mathematics, I did not find economics conceptually difficult. It was the writing aspect of the exam where I lost marks. Our lessons focused on writing essay plans and discussing chains of reasoning. Dickson helped me understand what the exam board required and how I could easily achieve an A* by adding small details to my writing. Suddenly, economics became fun. Lessons became enjoyable, and writing essays for homework became an engaging task.
Marked homework from my teachers started returning more frequently with top-of-the-class marks. My interest in economics and related subjects grew, leading me to apply to the World Bachelor in Business program, which spans three continents and has a less than 5% acceptance rate. I applied with little hope and was very surprised when I received the acceptance letter in March.
During the A-Level examinations, I was excited about economics. Having covered all the possible 25-mark questions with Dickson, I felt prepared for whatever might come. Taking the exams was a breeze. I was neither worried nor concerned; I knew what I had to write, and I wrote it. Although the results haven’t come back yet, I’m confident that, with Dickson’s help, I will achieve the A* I aimed for.
His guidance transformed my understanding and approach to economics, making it not only manageable but enjoyable. The journey from struggling with essay writing to excelling in it was a pivotal experience for me, one that has profoundly impacted my academic and personal growth. With renewed confidence and skills, I am now looking forward to embarking on the next chapter of my education with enthusiasm and determination. At the beginning of my sixth form year I was struggling heavily with my economics studies, but those difficulties and bad results (Grade C) have immediately stopped after only a couple of lessons with Dickson.
Now I have achieved an A* in the important year-end exams, which was possible due to Dickson's academic but also fun and interesting approach.
Thanks Dickson and I look forward to being tutored by you in my final year of studies!I am Dickson's former colleague. While working on a summer camp for 6 to 12-year-olds together, he demonstrated excellent classroom control, articulation skills, and professional expertise in Maths. As a fellow Maths tutor, we would sometimes discuss particularly challenging questions together, and he always shows excellent abilities to think laterally and systematically. As an admissions consultant who works on university entrance now, I still trust my students to Dickson, and they often show significant improvement in Maths and Economics in no time.
