About Jean Claire
Jean Claire Dy - Documentary Filmmaker & Multimedia Storytelling Expert
I'm an award-winning filmmaker and PhD candidate in Documentary Filmmaking at the University of Melbourne's Victorian College of Arts. My work bridges creative practice with academic rigor, specializing in documentary storytelling, collaborative filmmaking methods, and community-centered media production.
My documentary "A House in Pieces" won the Golden Hercules Award at Kasseler Dokfest Germany, and my current feature documentary "Etched Echoes" follows women in post-conflict as they rebuild their community through traditional weaving and storytelling. I've also completed a 90-page feature screenplay and numerous short film projects that explore memory, identity, and resilience.
As founder of Stories Beyond, a multimedia storytelling initiative, I've worked across journalism, international development, and the arts in Australia, the Philippines, China, and beyond. My background includes teaching at universities internationally, reporting for news agencies on conflict zones, and collaborating with organizations on visual storytelling campaigns.
