About Paul
I'm a director and producer, making feature films, television, and commercials.
With over 25 years experience in the business I helmed the science-fiction series, “Horizon”, which went on to win a number of awards at international film festivals, as well as a Best Drama Director nomination at the Royal Television Society awards.
My feature film work includes producing and directing two gothic thrillers "Fear the Invisible Man" and "Frankenstein: Legacy", both released worldwide on Amazon Prime and Sky. My next film is a supernatural-western shooting 2027.
I have been teaching for over 20 years and when not filming, I guest lecture at various universities and colleges around the country. These courses include:
Writing and Directing - (Masters) University of Bristol
Cinematography - (BA Hons) Falmouth Film School
Advanced Fiction Production - (BA Hons) University of West London
Advanced Cinematography - BECTU, UK's media & entertainment union
Directing Actors masterclass – Birmingham University
I am also a qualified End-Point Assessor, assessing apprentices on Levels 6, 7 and 8 on standards such as Production, Production Management and Visual Effects.
I have written two film books released worldwide, “Shooting Better Movies: The Student Filmmakers' Guide”, and “Making Your First Blockbuster”, which is aimed at the more intermediate/professional film-maker. Both were released by leading film book publisher Michael Wiese Productions (Shot by Shot/Save the Cat).
The books were endorsed by film editor Eddie Hamilton ("Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun: Maverick"), Director of Photography Dean Cundey ("Jurassic Park", "Back to the Future") and action director John Badham ("Bird on a Wire", "The Assassin").
Student Testimonials:
“Paul is a fantastic teacher, he taught me everything I know about film and some general life lessons too! He made complex filmic techniques and rules like 'the 180 degree rule' so much clearer and I truly believe my work with him has helped me into my current career working at the BBC.”
-Emily Miller
“Doing the course with Paul was fantastic and quite honestly was the platform I needed to help me get to where I am today. Before I did the course I knew very little about film making and didn’t really know where to start, but covering everything from composition to lighting, script
writing and editing it gave me so much film making knowledge. Although I always knew I wanted to go into editing and post-production, learning about all the other departments and roles was brilliant and has helped hugely as it gave me an insight into what each department does and what they require. I am now working as an edit assistant/assistant editor at the BBC and hopefully will one day be an editor.”

With 20-years teaching experience, I have finessed an approach to make information easy to digest. I'm a current practitioner in the business so up-to-date with trends and styles. I'm patient with my students, and can successfully work with all levels and learning styles. I take the work seriously, but not myself, and like to make each session fun but informative.
I have amassed many images, diagrams, and clips to help demonstrate my points to help you understand clearly, and take you from where you are to where you want to be with your film knowledge and professional career.

Paul was one of my uni lecturers and one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is thorough, immensely kind, and generous with his time and knowledge, but what really sets him apart is how much he really cares about his students. It is clear when you are taught by Paul that he genuinely wants the best for you (as long as YOU care enough to put in the work too)! Also, he teaches for the best reason: he (evidently) really loves film (and clearly knows his stuff). His passion is infectious and I could not recommend him highly enough.
Paul Dudbridge was my University lecturer at Bristol Film School throughout my three years of studies. Paul was a fantastic lecturer who delivered a mix of educational and fun lectures that kept the entire class interested. Not only did Paul deliver great lectures, but he also put time aside for his students by offering weekly 1:1 sessions and always having time to reply to students' emails and queries when in the office. I learned so much from Paul’s teaching and his career and life advice. I wouldn’t have gotten as much out of my degree if it wasn’t for Paul; he guided me to where I needed to be and supported me along the way. I would recommend Paul to anyone who is looking to receive a great education. If it wasn’t for Paul, I wouldn’t have graduated with my first-class degree and an outstanding achievement award from the University. Thank you, Paul!
Paul was a lecturer while I studied at Bristol Film School and is an extremely knowledgeable and passionate filmmaker. All his lectures were insightful and he covered the basics and fundamentals of cinematography all the way to managing yourself and your life as a filmmaker day to day on set. I highly recommend his Production lessons and you are guaranteed to learn something new.
I had Paul for my 3 years of film school. He was instrumental in my learning, helping massively with my technical and creative development. This is all not to mention how much I enjoyed his attitude and personality.
