About Rich
Graduating with a degree in Applied Mathematics provides the analytical framework for my chess instruction. 13 years of teaching have taught me that clear communication is vital when explaining game analysis, calculation, visualization, pawn structures, recording, and notation.
I emphasize competitive mindset, opening repertoire building, middlegame planning, pattern recognition, time management, and piece coordination. My goal is to make these concepts accessible for beginners while keeping our sessions engaging. I truly enjoy seeing players make sense of the board.

Chess is often much harder to learn than it initially appears. I rely on 13 years of experience to break down complex positions into manageable segments for my students. We will examine tactical motifs and positional themes together in a way that prioritizes understanding over rote memorization. My goal is to teach you how to think independently during your games.
Expect a patient environment where we can explore the logic behind your moves without any pressure. I look forward to exploring the board with you.
