About Soobeen
Hi! My name is Soobeen, and I am a Biochemistry student at the University of Alberta. I am originally from South Korea and speak both Korean and English fluently. I would describe myself as thoughtful, ambitious, silly, and soft. Although I have consistently achieved top grades in math and sciences and earned multiple awards and scholarships, I know firsthand how overwhelming studying can feel when you don’t know the most effective ways to learn. Through experiences and trials, I have learned strategies and mindsets that make studying both effective and enjoyable. I would love to help students who struggle academically by sharing these strategies with empathy and patience, supporting them in building confidence, reducing stress, and developing a positive relationship with learning.

I believe every student learns in a unique way and at their own pace. To stay motivated and passionate about learning, it’s important to find a personalized and effective approach for each subject. My goal as a tutor is not only to help students understand the content, but also to guide them in discovering their own fun and effective study methods through tips and strategies that have helped me succeed.
Each lesson is designed to be organized, and manageable, so students take in just the right amount of information without feeling overwhelmed. Lessons typically begins with a review of previous material, using small quizzes or flashcards to reinforce understanding and identify areas that need extra practice. We then move on to new concepts, I love to use visual aids, and step by step explanations to make learning approachable and manageable. At the end of the lesson, I encourage students to “teach me back” what they’ve learned, ensuring they truly "understand" the concept rather than just memorizing facts.
I am not only focused on the grades, but also on helping students feel more confident and less stressed about studying. I would say I am patient, very friendly and genuinely love working with kids and teens. I truly take pride and joy in helping students succeed, and I feel a strong sense of responsibility toward those I work with. If a student needs extra help in another subject outside of math or science, I am happy to help them without charging extra. I hope everyone finds happiness and joy in learning and how exciting it can become, not just a burden!
