I put lots of effort into personalising my teaching for whoever I teach. I make sure to teach exactly how the exam answers have to be written, whilst still making biology engaging and interesting. I keep my sessions quite interactive to ensure students understand the content in depth. I offer the first session for free so I can understand the student's academic needs to help design the best possible future sessions.
- What are my main teaching methods
I like to use powerpoints and written demonstrations to work through the content for topics. I also provide all my students with my A Level biology flashcards that I used to get an A* in the A Level. Past paper questions are constantly being used in my sessions and techniques for applying knowledge are worked on throughout.
- What is my USP
The reason you should pick me is I focus on my students and get very invested in their outcomes. I make sure only to take on a few students at once so I can really help and mentor them. I respond to my students at virtually anytime via email if they need to ask specific questions.
Additionally, I give my tutees my A Level Biology Flashcards for free which normally sell for £20 online.

- What do I look for in a student
Someone who is motivated to achieve their desired grades and who will take advantage of the resources I provide for them.
I am a current student in biology and geography at Durham University. I have been tutoring for around 4 years privately as well as in my college and high school. Additionally, I helped out students affected by the COVID 19 exam marks by tutoring in the UK Open Tutoring scheme.
I achieved A*A*A in biology, chemistry and mathematics A levels and would love to help you achieve whatever grades you desire! I like to tutor only a small number of students at once so my focus is always on helping my tutees.
If I have to travel, the travel costs will have to be covered too.
I am highly motivated Natural Sciences BSc student at Durham University who loves teaching and mentoring students. My relevant experiences include: a Laidlaw Scholarship in Research and Leadership, a Nuffield Research Placement, earning a Gold CREST award, earning the gold award in the British Biology Olympiad and currently writing up my own research paper to be published. In my spare time I sing opera and play badminton.
Perfect! Great, well structured lessons and very good at explaining in detail to get full marks on questions. Overall great time :)
A great student!
Perfect! very resourceful, kind and helpful. look forward to lessons in the future!
Lovely to talk to, very attentive and focused.
I have been struggling with trying to learn biology during lockdown but James was able to make everything so much easier ! I am in year 13 now and going into this year with a full understanding of the year 12 content and even some year 13 content too
James is such an engaging tutor who always brings his best to every session
As a tutor, James took the time and care to make sure I understood everything properly. He was considerate and helpful, and I felt comfortable asking questions and discussing what I needed to improve on - and improving!
I highly recommend James because he helped my improve my grade from a B to an A* over the course of a year.
His biology knowledge is vast and he is extremely good at simplifying and explaining complex theories! He also makes lessons interesting and gives useful advice on how to revise.
