About Jo
My name is Joanna. I want to use my knowledge and experience to help students to improve their French. I know what it's like to go through GCSE and A-level French as a non-native French speaker and have to learn everything from scratch. I know all the tricky points of French grammar that English people (myself included) often trip up on. I know how to prepare and revise for oral exams, writing exams, reading and listening exams in order to achieve the top grade because it was something that I have been through myself.
I have since had the amazing oppurtunity to live in France for a year, working as an English teacher and deepening my understanding of spoken French. I want to share what I have learned on my journey to help you on yours.

- My lessons 1 hour long and are ideal for GCSE and A-level French students.
- They will focus on speaking practice, grammar practice and translation practice.
- I can also help the student study any particular book or film on their curriculum.
- I achieved an A* at A-level French despite not being a native French speaker so I have a good understanding of the demands of the exams.
- I have always found learning French from a native English speaker more effective than learning French from a native French speaker. This is because English people can better empathise with the difficulties the student faces when learning French and so can better explain how to overcome those challenges.
- I have experience teaching at a high school in France with students aged 15-18. I also have experience as a volunteer GCSE maths tutor. This meansI know how to communicate and build rapports with students.
