About Candela

I grew up in Madrid, Spain, attending an international school and dreaming of studying abroad. Having always enjoyed exploring different scientific disciplines and combining them to solve problems from different perspectives, studying Natural Sciences felt like the perfect fit. I went on to achieve five A* grades in my International A Levels (Spanish, Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths) and secured a place at my dream university, the University of Cambridge.

Four years later, I have graduated with a First-Class result in my MSci and moved to London. Throughout my degree, I explored geology, mathematics, chemistry and physics, developing a broad and interdisciplinary understanding of the sciences.

I am now excited to share my knowledge and enthusiasm with students, helping them discover their own passion for science. Having recently completed my studies, I am very familiar with current syllabuses and exam requirements, and can identify common stumbling blocks and explain challenging concepts in an accessible way. I also enjoy supporting ambitious students in gaining admission to their dream universities, drawing on my own experience and the structured, methodical approach I have used to help students achieve academic excellence.

Outside academics, I love spending time outdoors, particularly going on long hikes and exploring nature. One of my lifelong ambitions is to hike the Appalachian Trail! Until then, I am more than happy camping with friends and collecting pretty rocks along the way.

I have hands-on tutoring experience supporting a secondary-school student with homework, developing personalised study plans and identifying effective learning techniques. Through our work together, her grades improved from failing marks to Bs. I found it incredibly rewarding to help her realise her potential, discover strategies that worked for her and build the confidence and motivation to succeed. Moreover, I really enjoy giving personalised support and can commit to ensuring all my students receive the same level of attention.

My approach to tutoring is structured and exam-focused. I believe that having a clear, tangible goal provides direction and motivation, so I use the syllabus and past exam papers to identify areas for improvement and tailor lessons to each student's needs. At the same time, I genuinely believe that the subjects I teach are fascinating, and I want to share that enthusiasm with my students. Beyond helping them achieve strong exam results, I aim to nurture curiosity, encourage independent learning and inspire a genuine interest in their subjects.

I offer lessons in geology, biology, chemistry and maths A level and IGCSE, as well as preparation for Cambridge applications, including the ESAT and mock interviews. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions!
