About Theo
I taught undergraduates at Cambridge University during my PhD, supervising students on essay questions, research methods, and writing style. I enjoyed that intellectual exchange so much that I continue to tutor alongside my own writing and research.
I hold a PhD in history from Cambridge and work as a journalist and researcher. I am currently a Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University, and my writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The Sunday Times and others.
Having written professionally for nearly 15 years across journalism, academia, think tanks, media, and start-ups, I work easily across a wide range of subjects. Beyond just structure and accuracy, I help students develop their own voice.
My ultimate goal is to make you confident writing about anything.

- At the start: We can brainstorm ideas, narrow down your topic, and find an original angle.
- During outlining: We can organise your thoughts so your argument flows naturally and makes a persuasive point.
- At the drafting stage: We can review your text together to sharpen your phrasing, cut out fluff, and help you find a natural, elegant writing voice.
I have been writing professionally for nearly 15 years across academia, journalism, think tanks, media, and start-ups. Over that time, I have written everything from academic papers and policy reports to TV scripts, magazine pieces, newsletters, ad copy and corporate briefs.
Because of this, I understand how different formats work and how to adapt your style to match your audience.
