About Julissa
Open-mic regulars often asked how I played my acoustic sets, and that curiosity eventually inspired me to begin teaching guitar. I enjoy helping students discover the same excitement and freedom that music has brought to my own journey.
I have spent nine years gigging across the South and Southwest as a singer-guitarist, gaining practical experience through live performances and countless hours on stage. My Belmont University degree also gives me a strong formal foundation to complement my real-world performance experience.
Most importantly, I genuinely enjoy sharing guitar with people who want to learn, improve, and talk about music. Whether you are preparing for your first performance or simply want to play your favorite songs, I would love to help you along the way.

Struggling to find the right chord shapes often feels like hitting a wall before you even start the song. I admit that I spent years fumbling through scales until I realized how the blues progressions actually connect to the theory.
We will focus on improvisation, soloing, lead guitar, and ear training to bridge those gaps. I incorporate reading tabs and sheet music into our work to ensure you understand the mechanics behind the sound.
You will maintain your instrument properly with my guidance on tuning and maintenance routines. I provide a monthly recorded review of your progress so you can see how your technique evolves over time. My own journey through the sacred and secular traditions informs how I break down these complex concepts for you.
