About Christian
I was born in the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda and come from a family deeply rooted in education. My father, who is of Portuguese and British heritage, teaches History and Politics at the secondary level. My mother is Swedish and works as an assistant history researcher at a university. Education is a shared vocation in my family—my eldest sister is a primary school teacher, and my uncle taught Religious Studies and PSHE at secondary level. Growing up in this environment, curiosity, dialogue, and a love of learning were consistently nurtured. I moved to the UK during my secondary education and later completed a degree in History and Japanese (studying philosophy in the first year as well). I have studied and worked in Japan on two separate occasions, most recently as an Assistant Language Teacher in the public school system for the Sendai Board of Education. I’m also experienced in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL/ESOL) and Japanese up to A-level. I trained at Bangor University in Wales, specialising in Secondary History while also teaching Religious Studies and Geography. I’m currently preparing to relocate to Cairo, Egypt, for a two-year teaching contract at an international school. My cosmopolitan upbringing and experiences living and working across cultures have given me a broad, inclusive perspective on education. I believe these experiences enable me to connect meaningfully with students from diverse backgrounds and to help them develop a rich, global understanding of the humanities.

I approach private tutoring as a chance to spark curiosity and confidence. My sessions are student-led, responsive, and always grounded in real-world connections. I bring an international perspective to every topic, helping learners see how global ideas, histories, and systems interact. I believe in making space for big questions and encouraging students to think critically, not just recall facts. As a trained historian, our own education systems filter our opinions and biases through a national framework and culture. My aim is to provide a wider perspective to allow a wider and more informed perspective. Whether we're exploring a historical event, analysing a political system, or unpacking ethical dilemmas, I tailor each lesson to the student’s needs, pace, and goals. I focus on developing skills that go beyond exams—like structured thinking, clear communication, and analytical depth—while also building the knowledge and techniques needed for exam success. Lessons are relaxed but purposeful, and I work to create an environment where students feel supported, heard, and most importantly intellectually challenged. I enjoy working with learners from all backgrounds and adapting my teaching to reflect their interests and cultural perspectives.
