About Kiera
I am a music teacher, ELA tutor, and illustrator with over 10 years of experience in music and general education. I've taught early childhood classes and music on the Upper East Side and throughout Manhattan, developing a passion for integrating art, music, and the City's history into my lessons. I hold a bachelor's degree from NYU in early childhood education and am completing my master's at Teachers College, Columbia University in music and music education.

I enjoy creating thematic, movement, and art-infused lessons to illustrate skills and concepts in music theory in enjoyable and memorable ways for my students. A typical 45-minute lesson includes warm-ups, a story or hook, a scaffolded lesson, time for a brain break (if needed), and independent practice. My goal for lessons is to provide the foundational skills for reading, performing, and creating music to their heart's content until they're ready for classical training if they want to pursue that. This may occasionally include dramatic play, painting, crafting, and puppetry.
My ELA lessons are similar as well. We start with a warm-up and explore a text or concept with a modeled demonstration, and then allow time for practice and a recap. I focus on developing and sharpening phonics skills to empower students to be the best independent readers they can be.
