About Shanna
Hello, I'm Shanna, a Certified Reading Specialist (K–12), Ohio-licensed teacher, NTA Certified Tutor, and holder of a Master of Education in Reading & Literacy. As an elementary reading teacher and founder of SDA Tutoring, I am passionate about helping young learners become confident, successful readers and writers. I use evidence-based Science of Reading practices to provide individualized instruction tailored to each student's unique needs. My goal is to create a supportive, engaging learning environment where students build strong literacy skills, gain confidence, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

I am a Certified Reading Specialist (K–12), Ohio-licensed teacher, NTA Certified Tutor, and hold a Master of Education in Reading & Literacy. I provide individualized reading and writing instruction for students in kindergarten through fifth grade using evidence-based Science of Reading practices.
My lessons begin with diagnostic assessment data and are tailored to each student's specific literacy needs. A typical lesson may include phonemic awareness activities, explicit phonics instruction, decoding and word-reading practice, fluency work with decodable texts, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and guided writing activities. I regularly monitor progress to ensure students are making measurable growth and receiving instruction that meets their needs.
What sets me apart is my extensive experience as an elementary reading teacher, specialized literacy training, and commitment to providing systematic, explicit instruction that builds confidence and long-term reading success. I understand that every child learns differently, and I create engaging, supportive lessons that help students develop the skills they need to become successful readers and writers.
My tutoring services are designed for students in kindergarten through fifth grade who are struggling with reading or writing, have literacy skill gaps, need additional support outside the classroom, or would benefit from individualized instruction to strengthen foundational literacy skills.
