About Shaneikiah
Shaneikiah Verel (Sha-NEE-ka ver-ELL) is a career science educator who has led students to success in a variety of class settings and countries. Whether it is teaching astronomy to a classroom of students in Egypt or explaining chemistry to a single student online, Shaneikiah brings passion, patience, and professionalism to each and every encounter.
Shaneikiah has over a decade of experience in education and instructional design. She began as a Teach For America teacher in Louisiana where she taught Physical Science (which is still her favorite subject to teach). She then accepted an international teaching position in Cairo, Egypt where she single handedly authored the curriculum of a science elective called Applied Science and Technology (AST). Shaneikiah’s course, which covered Astronomy, Forensics, Anatomy, and Epidemiology, enjoyed a large enrollment thanks to her unique and engaging instructional practices. Additionally, she has 3 years of online teaching experience in Biology and Chemistry.
When not in the classroom, Shaneikiah enjoys being a lifelong learner; she is trilingual and plays several instruments. She is a wanderlust who has lived in 11 countries for 30+ days, and visited 14 more. Shaneikiah enjoys scuba diving and roller skating; she has incorporated those activities into her travels as well. As an avid diver, her motivation to travel doubled when she discovered the underwater world! She plays roller derby, a full contact and all-female sport, all over the world. Her great love of the sport led her to create a roller derby team in Cairo in 2013.

Shaneikiah is keen to help students who are challenging themselves to study any form of science they find interesting, from Middle School Science to Undergraduate Science Courses. She is best at helping students create and conquer sustainable goals through small, consistent effort. Shaneikiah believes that there is no such thing as a “bad student” , only an unmotivated student, and there are no “bad subjects” , only under-explored ones. By highlighting students’ strengths, she can motivate them to explore widely in their science subjects. Shaneikiah’s educational superpower is building student confidence so that they are motivated to master their material under her leadership. This is her tried and true philosophy for the nearly 1,200 students she has taught.
Shaneikiah is a proud graduate of The University of Chicago (MA, 2016) where she studied Comparative Human Development. This educational background informs her holistic approach to education, where she recognizes the impact of Student Environment on Student Success. Therefore she is committed to building a rapport with families and working closely together to ensure positive outcomes for their students.

Five Stars! I highly would recommend her for science. She’s highly passionate and doesn’t make it boring.. When a person is struggling she will be very patient with you.. A person can feel it in her aura how calm she is. Very honest not in a mean way, but straightforward with things. She use to also offer tutoring after school as well..
