With extensive experience tutoring both undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing accounting degrees in Australia and the UK, as well as tutoring and mentoring ACCA students worldwide, I am dedicated to helping you achieve your academic goals. I also have a background in tutoring TAFE accounting students in Australia. During my university years, I provided peer tutoring, fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Helping students is truly my passion! Over the past six years of my professional accounting experience, I've had the privilege of working in a leading accounting firm in London and Sydney. This extensive experience has equipped me with a valuable array of real-life examples that I incorporate into my teaching, to facilitate a deeper understanding of accounting principles. What drives me most is my passion for imparting knowledge. Having experienced gaps in my own educational journey, I'm committed to ensuring my students receive the guidance and support they need to succeed, whether it be technically or emotionally. In addition to my teaching commitments, I am actively involved in mentoring students and professionals. Find out more about Ayashna

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in the field of accounting first developed during my A-level, where I acquired a solid grounding in foundational concepts such as double-entry, preparing and analysing financial statements. This initial exposure ignited my passion for the subject, prompting me to pursue higher education in accounting and finance at university. Subsequently, I achieved accreditation as a Chartered Certified Accountant through the ACCA qualification. Throughout my academic journey, I derived immense satisfaction from imparting knowledge and assisting my peers. I thoroughly enjoyed simplifying complex concepts to them.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you would like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach basic accounting (debits and credits), bookkeeping, financial reporting, analysing financial statements, specific chapters in ACCA course, exam techniques in passing ACCA exams, External Auditing, Finance, Microeconomics.

I also offer career advice and mentoring to students as well as professionals.

I can also help with navigating through accounting softwares such as Xero and Caseware.

I teach my students breathing techniques to help them focus on their studies.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My dad has been a huge inspiration to me. I vividly recall the time when he taught me my economics module with such remarkable simplicity, leaving an indelible impact on me. During a period where my primary focus was simply just passing exams, he got me to think differently by simplifying complex economics theory. He would often say "Just look around you, economics is everywhere". This really resonated with me and broadened my understanding. This is a technique I truly aspire to incorporate into my teaching so I can empower my dear students to grasp complex concepts with ease. I hope to help them build lasting knowledge and skills that go beyond just passing exams and getting high marks.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Being an effective tutor requires understanding each student's individual needs and preferred learning styles. Some students learn best visually, while others thrive with interactive methods. Patience is essential, as it involves explaining concepts patiently, even if it takes multiple attempts. Above all, genuine care for the student's overall well-being, beyond financial gain, is what truly distinguishes an exceptional tutor.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject and your days at school?

Here's a story from my time studying accounting: When I was new to accounting, I struggled a lot with basic concepts like debits, credits, and journals. It was challenging-I even cried sometimes. But I refused to give up. I kept at it until I had a solid foundation of the concept. Then, something amazing happened. I helped a friend who was about to quit because she was struggling to understand as well. After I explained the basics to her, she got an 85% on her next test. It was a big moment for both of us, showing how determination and a little help can make a big difference in learning.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

When I first started learning accounting, I encountered significant hurdles in my journey, particularly in understanding the foundational principles of accounting, including its purpose and the intricacies of debits and credits. This is precisely why I am resolute in my commitment to teaching students, as I empathise deeply with the challenges one faces when grappling with fundamental concepts.

Currently, I find myself navigating the ongoing challenge of staying updated with the constantly shifting landscape of current affairs.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Since relocating to Australia from the UK six months ago, I've discovered a genuine passion for working with students. Whether through tutoring, mentoring or offering career and life advice, I find it incredibly rewarding. Witnessing their growth and development is immensely gratifying and fills me with warmth. Giving back is important to me as I've been supported on my own journey. Outside of educational pursuits, I indulge in martial arts, solo travelling and playing the ukulele. I believe I am a creative person. See...accountants being boring is a myth! I am a super fun accountant/auditor :)
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

What sets me apart is my empathetic and compassionate nature, which enables me to connect with students on a deeper level. I excel in discerning their individual needs and adapting my teaching style accordingly, recognising the unique learning styles of each student. Patience is a cornerstone of my practice as I welcome and encourage students to ask questions repeatedly until they fully grasp the concepts. I believe being a Superprof goes beyond just having expertise in the subject matter or technical skills; it's about inspiring and nurturing their growth. It's about being a mentor, a guide and a source of support!
