About Deepa
About me Diploma in Kathak (SIFAS Singapore), trained in both Lucknow and Jaipur gharanas under Guru Nivedita Joshi and Guru Minhaz Khan. 9 years of Bharatanatyam training (Pandanallur & Kalakshetra styles) under Guru Girija Chandran and Guru Haritha Haridas. Over 17 years of combined classical dance training and stage performances across Singapore and India. Experienced performer in cultural festivals, temple events, and collaborative productions.

My Approach to Teaching
I believe Indian classical dance is not just about movement, but also about discipline, storytelling, and connecting with rhythm. My teaching combines both traditional training methods and a student-friendly approach, ensuring every learner feels confident and inspired.

Techniques & Methodology
Emphasis on strong foundations in adavus (Bharatanatyam) and tatkar (Kathak) with focus on rhythm (tala) and footwork.
Use of storytelling (abhinaya) to help students express emotions and connect with Indian mythology.
Combination of nritta (pure dance) and nritya (expressional pieces) to give students a balanced learning.
I gradually build choreography skills, starting from basics and progressing to full-length compositions and stage readiness.

Lesson Structure & Duration
A typical class lasts 60 minutes.
Classes begin with warm-up and rhythm exercises, followed by technique practice, and end with short choreography or abhinaya practice.
For advanced students, I also include performance tips, stage presence, and choreography refinement.
