My teaching methodology varies depending on the kind of student and their age. The approach I use on children is very dynamic, involving aural, reading and singing games to develop the child's own creativeness and activate musical senses. I usually use John Thompson's piano book or Chester's initiation book.
With grade students, I try to follow a quite similar methodology, but also following the structures of the ABRSM grades system. The grade students require a higher level of exigency and discipline in their weekly practice, and I procure to teach them practice methodologies for them to overcome technical issues quickly and focus on their musical creativity primarily.
My approach to my students is always very personal and humane. I never try to put myself as a figure of authority, but as a reliable and trustworthy person who's there to help them achieve what they want. A smiley face and laughter are the best indicators my lessons are working out and the student is taking something for themselves. I understand teaching/learning is a very personal job and that's why I prefer to be an equal to my students, so they feel comfortable with me and with the subject I'm teaching them.
I am a college student currently studying at Trinity Laban. I've been teaching for the last three years privately around Southfields and its surrounding. I also teach at World Heart Beat Music Academy and Riversdale Primary School. I also teach in Spanish and give Spanish conversational lessons.
