About Josh
I am a dedicated math tutor with a strong background in calculus and pre-calculus, and I take pride in helping students turn confusion into clarity. I know that these subjects can feel intimidating, especially when a student has fallen behind or has been taught in a way that did not fully click. My role is to make the material more understandable, more approachable, and far less stressful.
I bring a patient, professional, and encouraging teaching style to every lesson. I take the time to explain concepts clearly, adapt to the student’s pace, and build a strong foundation that supports long-term success. Rather than simply helping students get through one assignment, I work to strengthen their understanding so they can handle future material with greater independence and confidence.
Students can expect lessons that are organized, supportive, and focused on real progress. I value clear communication, reliability, and a thoughtful approach to teaching. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and confident that they are working with someone who is genuinely invested in their success.
My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but to help them develop the skills and mindset needed to succeed in math over time. With the right guidance, calculus and pre-calculus become much more manageable, and many students discover that they are far more capable than they first believed.

I approach tutoring with the belief that math is not just about memorizing steps, but about learning how ideas connect. My goal is to help students build real understanding, develop problem-solving confidence, and feel more capable every time they sit down to work. I want students to leave lessons not only knowing how to do a problem, but also understanding why the method works.
My teaching method focuses on clarity, structure, and repetition with purpose. I break difficult ideas into manageable steps, explain concepts in plain language, and help students recognize patterns so the material begins to feel logical instead of overwhelming. I guide students through examples, ask questions throughout the lesson to check understanding, and make sure they actively practice rather than just watch me solve problems. I also help students learn how to approach unfamiliar problems on their own, which is often the key to success in pre-calculus and calculus.
A typical lesson begins by identifying the student’s biggest point of confusion or the topic they need most for class, homework, or a test. From there, we review the concept, work through a few guided examples together, and then move into practice problems where the student takes the lead with support from me as needed. I also emphasize good mathematical habits such as setting up problems clearly, showing work carefully, using correct notation, and checking whether an answer makes sense.
What sets me apart is that I care deeply about helping students truly understand the material. I do not rush through problems or rely on shortcuts that leave students confused later. I focus on building strong foundations, because once those are in place, even difficult topics become much more manageable. I aim to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and growing through the process.
These lessons are ideal for students in pre-calculus, calculus, and related courses who want clearer explanations, stronger problem-solving skills, and greater confidence. They are especially helpful for high school and college students who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or underprepared, as well as for students who are already doing fairly well but want to deepen their understanding and perform at a higher level.

I’ve never had a more experienced and thoughtful instructor! I’ve been a student of his for many years, on and off but more or less continuously.
Something really important to note is his flexibility in teaching—whether you need advanced concepts like music theory and improvisation, or just need the push to learn a few chords to strum around the campfire, he really has a skill of meeting students where they are.
My studies with him have been expansive, and he’s great with my kids’ lessons too. Thank you Josh!!Josh's extensive experience and wealth of knowledge shine through in his teaching! He is kind, patient, a clear communicator, and reliable. Whether you want to take an introductory course to learn guitar, get his thoughts on a project you are working on, or dive into music theory, he is the SuperProf for you!
We just started lessons with Josh and have had a great experience. He's fun to work with, knowledgable, and flexible! An amazing guy and an amazing experience! Can't recommend him enough!
Josh is prompt, fairly priced & SUCH A GOOD TEACHER. His videos are super easy to follow & he can break down any song or riff I ask him for in a way that makes sense to me. He always checks in to make sure I got what I needed. His turnaround is super fast, even when he’s on the road. I highly recommend him!
I’ve known Josh since 2014 and have learned so much about music from him over the years! It’s one thing to be an incredible musician, but it takes a whole other set of skills to be able to clearly communicate one’s understanding to others so they can actually carry that new knowledge forward. Josh is 100% both. Not exaggerating, he is the best musician I know (I’m a professional musician myself) and he also knows how to explain things in a way people will actually get. He is not a musical elitist and is so inclusive. He makes people feel comfortable to be vulnerable and look at ways they can improve. A musician at any level would benefit from spending some time with Josh. The world is fortunate to have him as a player and an educator.
