If the student is particular weak in a topic, a full lesson dedicate in confidence building in the weak areas.

I believe that every minute of every lesson should be focused and therefore in the first free lesson I kindly ask for a syllabus and a course textbook. My teaching methods may vary from student to student, since everyone learns best in different ways, but fundamentally I try to find where and what area the student struggles with and find resources to go through with them to help them understand these topics.
I start at a fundamental level and build from there, I like to see my style as top down. If you are struggling with a problem I am not afraid to spend more time on it. I would personally prefer one on one tuition however I am not apposed to a group session.
My approach to teaching is to help the student understand the key, underlying issues to a problem, or in a subject. This gives you the confidence to tackle and solve future problems. When tackling a problem or a challenging questions, we first have to split it up. The key to Maths is to be able to turn a problem that you have never seen before into a problem that you know how to solve.
Firstly I find out what the student knows already and where he/she has difficulties and I discuss exactly what he/she needs to acheive and what materials are best to be used. Then I go through all Ks3 topics, practicing them with exercises and revising them slowly but steadily. Making them fun and real. No stress.
Most of my teaching time has been spent with students in secondary education, with a focus on maths, economics, and history.
