About Charlotte
I am a composer and UNCSA student offering private instruction in music theory and music composition or in clarinet. I currently hold my AFA in music, and my composition portfolio includes pieces such as "Todeskuss" for vibraphone quartet and "Carbon Clockwork" for saxophone quartet. Despite my student status, I have been studying on my own for the past 10 years, in addition to what I've learned in my own tenure as a student under instructors with a pedagogical lineage that can be traced back to notable composers such as Aaron Copland, Richard Strauss, and Samuel Adler. Additionally, I have been performing on clarinet for the past 15 years with multiple school ensembles, community bands, and even a stint or two as a pit musician in theater.

I am offering lessons in music theory and music composition aimed towards beginning- to intermediate-level students. As is the case with most studio instruction, the exact curriculum will vary from student to student. However, assuming the student is new to theory and composition, they can expect to follow a general curriculum starting with clef reading across three major clefs (treble, bass, and alto) before moving into identifying intervals and scales. Once students are comfortable with scales, I will begin teaching them the basics of harmony, melody, and rhythm, and provide them with a combination curriculum that allows them to start composing basic miniatures alongside learning new concepts within music theory.
