About Michael
I am a composer currently based in Kingston, Ontario. I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor's degree in Music for composition in 2019, and have been practicing my art professionally since then. I have had my music performed all over eastern Canada, from Toronto and Montreal to St. John's, as well as Italy, and I have received two Canada Council for the Arts grants to fund my projects. I am also a classically trained pianist.
I have been teaching piano, theory and composition for over 6 years now, with students of all ages, and all levels.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions of if you'd like to set up a lesson!

Each of my composition lessons are tailored to the student - from our discussions to my assignments. An assignment can include harmonizing a Bach chorale in 2 different ways, writing a short 16 measure composition in a non-standard scale, writing a complete work under my guidance over a couple weeks for any instrumentation, and even dabble in orchestration.
I am patient, and can help you at any compositional roadblocks, and can help you express your ideas more clearly on the page.
In my lessons, we may listen to new works for inspiration, analyze classics, or talk about your piece for the whole lesson, depending on which of these is needed most.
In my theory lessons, we will follow the RCM curriculum or explore post-tonal harmony and atonal techniques. I can prepare you for your harmony RCM exams at any level.
Looking forward to having a chat!
